Procedures for Updating Timeslips Versions 9 &
10
Once you've downloaded an update for Timeslips, you
must install it. This is pretty straight forward for a local installation, but not so simple for a
network installation. Here are the of steps for updating your network with a service pak from
Timeslips.
- Make a backup
- Do data verification
- Update server
- Update each local station either by reinstalling
or by running the update
- To Install Timeslips locally, run the setup program
from the loclInst subdirectory on the server FROM EACH
STATION. OR
- To run an update locally, run the service
pak at each station. Even if the server has the service pak installed, the local
install will not install the service pak. It must be applied separately.
- Be sure that you match the installation file path
(except drive letter), for example: If server is I:\data\ts9 then the local install
should be
- c:\data\ts9 (YES)
- Not - c:\program files\ts9 (NO)
- Not - c:\data\timeslip (NO)
- Run station administrator from each station and check
the local installation. This is done by selecting Options / Diagnose this computer. Adjust
as necessary.
Three other items I suggest you do are:
- Put the report templates somewhere where everyone
will be using the same ones and that will get backed
up.
- Set the temp directory to be local. (I believe it
defaults to the local windows temp directory so this
may be unnecessary).
- Install resource meter in the startup group and teach
everyone how to use it. TS9 uses LOTS of resources,
so it is often important to monitor them.
