Sample Email Worms
 
Here are a couple of sample viruses that are making the rounds. They are trying various ways to convince you to open their attached virus infected files:
 
Hello user of Steveshank.com  e-mail  server,
 
Your e-mail  account will be  disabled because of improper using  in  next
three days,  if you are still wishing to use it, please, resign your account information. Please, read  the  attach for further details.
 
For security  reasons attached file is password protected. The  password is "34117".

Of course, since I am a one person company, I know I didn't send this to myself, so I know it is a virus. It might have made me stop and think if it were from Comcast or Hurricane Electric or Internet Communications or some other Internet service provider. The virus is in the encrypted attached file. The hope is to bypass virus protectors by encrypting the package. Neat trick.
 
No one with a functioning brain will send you a security password via Email, since Email is not secure.

"I got an email from Microsoft that said it was a patch and use it immediately is this true or a hoax?
Eliot"
 
This is worse than a hoax. It is a Trojan. Microsoft will never send patches out via email.
 
The first sample was not sent from me. The second was not sent from Microsoft. You cannot trust the return address on Email. It is often faked.
